NOKIA N-Series Trick
1. Is the "Universal number"
If you find yourself out of coverage area and there is an emergency, dial 112 to make your mobile search any existing network that can connect the call for you, 112 is the worldwide emergency number, it can even be dialed even if the keypads's lock. try it!

2. The "Secret car keys"
You can pull this off only if you have a spare remote key. Say, you left your keys in the locked car and the spare's at home. Using your mobile phone, call someone at home from their cell phone. hold your phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on thier end. radio signals will pass through and your car will unlock...

3. Disable stolen phone
To check your phone's serial number, key in *#06#. A 15 digit code will apear on screen, write it down and keep it safe. when your phone gets stolen, phone the NTC and give them the serial code. they can block your handset so even if the thief changes SIM, your phone will be totally useless.

Transfer or move all your sms messages from your s60 phone memory to MMC easily.

Make sure that Messaging memory is set to Phone Memory
(Messages -> Settings -> Other -> Memory -> Phone memory).

With FExplorer, go to E:\System\Mail and delete the whole dir.
Not just the content, the whole dir.
Go to Messages -> Settings -> Other -> Memory and select “MMC”

Now you will be prompted if you would like to copy the messages to your “new” location

Make your Symbian Series 60 phone use your pc's internet connection via bluetooth
With this tutorial, you will learn how to make your Symbian Series 60 (WAP 2.0) phone use your pc's internet connection via bluetooth. The advantages of this are that when your phone is within bluetooth range of your computer, you will have FREE and UNLIMITED mobile internet!!

REQUIREMENTS

1) a Symbian Series 60 phone with WAP 2.0 (Nokia 6600 or 7610 *only* for now) 2) an Internet Router (LAN) 3) Patience! 4) Follow this tutorial in its order GIVEN because some parts can only be done before others and vice versa.

What to do on your phone

1) Download the latest Nokia PC Suite for your phone. For the 6600, it has its own PC Suite which you can find on Nokia.com. For the 7610, download its own PC Suite (whatever it is) from the 7610
2) In your PC Suite, make a new profile/access point/WAP Connection profile (called Access Point in your phone). In the new profile here are the settings that you should change. The rest don't touch.
Set the name to "Bt" (no quotation marks). The capitilization of the B is necessary.
3) The Data Bearer should be GSM Data/HSCSD
4) The Dial-up number must be something, but it can be anything except nothing (make sure you put something in the field)
5) The User name must be a user name on your computer when you log in.
6) The password is the password of your username that you entered for the username. If the username has no password, MAKE AND ACTIVATE ONE (it's mandatory for this) via Control Panel --> User Accounts.
7) Authentication: Normal
8) Use PPP Compression: YES
9) Use Login Script: YES
10) Login Script. This is why you are using PC Suite and not just entering this into your phone directly, the script is complicated. Copy this DIRECTLY and make sure it's IDENTICAL to this script in your profile:

Code:

CHARMAP [windows-1252]
LOOP 10
{
SEND "CLIENT"+<0x0d>
WAIT 3
{
"SERVER" OK
}
}
EXIT KErrNoAnswer$

OK:
EXIT

11) Save this new Remote Connection (Access point) to your phone via PC Suite.
12) Download gnubox.sis from http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/gnubox6600.SIS
13) Install gnubox into your phone.

You are ALMOST done with your phone settings :)... the last settings will have to be done AFTER the rest of these instructions.

What to do on your PC

1) Make sure you deactivate the Bluetooth COM Port that mRouter is using to connect to your phone. OR, just make sure that you stop Connection Manager from using your phone through bluetooth period- just uncheck bluetooth as a connection option there.
2) Go to Control Panel --> Phone and Modem Options --> Modems --> New. On the first page of the modem installation, CHECK "I will select from a list".
3) Choose "Communications cable between 2 Computers" from the "(Standard Modem Types)" list.
4) Select the COM Port to be the COM Port that your phone connects to via Bluetooth Serial Port.
5) Once you're done and brought back to your modems list, highlight the new modem, click "Properties", and make sure your modem is at the highest speed: 115200 bytes/second.
6) Now, go to Control Panel --> Network Connections. Select "Create a New Connection" from the left margin (it'll start up a wizard).
7) Choose "Set up an Advanced Connection", then "Next".
8) Choose "Accept incoming connections", then "Next".
9) Check the “Communications cable between two computers” modem that you creating, then "Next".
10) Select "Do not allow virtual private connections", then "Next".
11) Check the username that you select in your phone setup step 5, then click "Next".
12) Make sure all options are checked in the list, then highlight "Internet Protocall TCP/IP" and then click "Properties". Click "Specify TCP/IP Addresses" and input this range:
From: 10.0.2.2 To: 10.0.2.254. Now click OK, then Next, and then Finish the wizard. You will return to Network Connections.
13) If you have a connection called "Bluetooth Network" in Network Connections, right-click on it and click "Disable". It should be greyed out now.
14) Run cmd.exe which is found in Start Menu --> Programs/All Programs --> Accessories --> Command Prompt.
15) Enter these commands into cmd.exe after reading 15b.

Code:

netsh router ip nat install
netsh router ip nat add interface "YOUR LAN INTERFACE NAME OR NETWORK BRIDGE NAME" full
netsh router ip nat add interface Internal private

15b) -Wait for cmd.exe to load that command and then let you enter a new command. Do the same for the all of the commands.
-Try entering every LAN connection name IN the quotation marks and including them in the command in Network Connections until cmd.exe actually executes the command. The name that I found out that I had to input was my network bridge name which is basically its title.
-Internal should be spelled in the language that your computer uses!!!!
16) Close cmd.exe and YOU ARE DONE CONFIGURING YOUR COMPUTER!!! CONGRATS. hehehe

BACK to your phone settings (you must only do this after configuring steps 1-13 in phone settings and all of the steps in the computer settings!!!)

14) Run gnubox.
15) In gnubox, go to Options --> 2box direct --> Bluetooth. Then, select your computer once Bluetooth searches and finds it.
16) Make sure your computer is on and working, you followed all of the steps shown IN THE ORDER THEY WERE GIVEN IN. Go into Web/Services --> Options --> Settings --> Default Access Point. Select your new access point/profile thingy which is "Bt".
17) FINISH !!! Simply go onto the internet on your phone now, and once you connect, your computer will make a Connection sound (it's kinda mystical-ish). You MAY get an error stating that your script is invalid, but then your phone will continue to try to connect and you will (it happened to me MANY times).

Mobile Phones And Driving

1. Always Use Hands Free: It is illegal to use a mobile phonee while driving unless you use a hands free in-car-kit or portable hands free device. When using a portable hands free device make sure it is set up and working before you start to drive. A hands free device can reduce the physical effort to make and receive calls however, it alone doesn’t make using a mobile phone while driving safe.
2. Never Take Notes, Look Up Phone Numbers, Read or Send SMS: Always keep both eyes on the road and never take notes during a call. Don’t read or send text messages or SMS (Short Messaging Service) while driving. If required, use a directory assistance service which connects you directly to the number and don’t look up phone numbers from your phone's memory.
3. Don’t Call in Heavy Traffic, Poor&nbspRoad Conditions&nbspor Bad Weather: Don’t accept or make calls if traffic, weather or road & nbsp conditions could make it unsafe to do so. Also, even if the traffic conditions are light, always tell the person you are speaking to that you’re driving and that you may have to end the call if driving conditions change.
4. Don’t Engage in Complex or Emotional Conversations: If a call becomes complex or emotional tell the person you are speaking to, you are driving and suspend the call. Complex and emotive conversations on a mobile phone, or with other passengers, and driving don’t mix – they are distracting and can be dangerous.
5. Use Message Services to Answer Calls: If a call is unnecessary or you consider it unsafe to answer at the time, don’t answer the call . Let it divert to voicemail or an answering service.
6. Pull Over Safely if You Stop to Make a Call: If you choose to stop to answer or make a call or retrieve a message, pull over carefully in a safe area. Don’t stop where you could be a hazard to other vehicles, pedestrians or yourself.
7. Use Your Phone’s Features to Reduce the Effort to Make a Call: Before using our phone while drving, Carefully read your phone’s instruction manual and learn to use the speed dial and redial features of your phone. Also, if possible, use a phone with voice activated dialling and automatic answering features to reduce the effort to make and receive a call.
8. Plan Your Trip and Make Calls When Stationary: Whenever possible plan your trip and make calls when stationary or during rest breaks in long trips.
9. Tell callers you’re driving while on the phone: Always let the person you’re speaking to know that you are driving. This lets them know that you may not always respond immediately and reminds you that driving safely is your first priority. “Hello, I’m in the car at the moment…”
10. In Emergencies Use Your Phone to Call for Help: Dial '000' or '112' in case of fire, traffic accident, road hazard or medical emergency. Both '000' and '112' are free calls, and will connect you to emergency services. Almost one third of all genuine calls to ‘000’ are made from mobile phones.

Cellphone Safety Tips

1. Use your phone's security lock code , if it has one.
2. Disable bluetooth , if not in use.
3. Always use a mobile hanging ribbon/thread/strip for safety.
4. Install Anti-virus Software.
5. Always use a mobile hanging ribbon/thread/strip for safety.
6. Record details of your electronic serial number (ESN) of your CDM phone.
7. Consider separate Insurance.
8. GSM phoneshave a unique IMEI number.
9. Properly mark your phone with your postcode and House No. to help police identify stolen ones.
10. Enable the on the handset.
11. Only unlock the phone when you need to use it.
12. Never buy a phone unless you know the seller is the owner, can they produce the original packaging or a receipt?
13. Don’t give your Mobile Phoneto strangers on the pretext of emergency situation. They may slip away with your mobile handset.
14. Report a lost or stolen phone to the police immediately and insist for an acknowledgment.
15. Inform your Service Provider if your phone is stolen or lost.
16. Keep your phone out of sight in your pocket or handbag when not in use. Don’t attract attention to your phone when you are carrying or using it in the street.
17. Don't leave your mobile unattended.
18. Keep windows/doors of your car closed, when you are talking on mobile phone. Do not use mobile phone while driving.
19. While driving, never keep your cellphone on the dashboard.
20. Subscribe to a Mobile Tracking Service available in the Mobile Market(If it is supported on your handset).
21. Extra vigilance can produce results. You are less likely to become a victim if you are aware of your surroundings.

Few Important Tweaks

Driver Signing

It’s a pain to be prompted by Windows warning you about “unsigned drivers” whenever you need to install third party drivers for hardware. No, there’s nothing wrong with installing “unsigned drivers”. They merely lack Microsoft’s stamp of approval. The only thing the prompts are good at is slowing down a driver installation. Here’s the simple fix that gets rid of those annoying prompts.

Right click “My Computer” and click “Properties”. Go to the “Hardware” tab and click on “Driver Signing”. Select “Ignore” for the action. You will never be bothered by those pesky prompts again.

Error Reporting

On the occasion that a program, or even the entire Operating System experiences a crash, you are greeted with a prompt to send an error report back to Microsoft. I don’t know about everybody else, but most of the time when I get this, it isn’t usually the Operating System’s fault and I would never bother to send a report.

To turn off this prompting, go to Control Panel > System >“Advanced” tab and click “Error Reporting”. Select “Disable Error Reporting”, but leave “But notify me when a critical error occurs” checked, for it’s sometimes a good idea to see it and it sometimes give a clue as to what happened.

IE’s Image Auto-Resize

Whenever IE6 comes across an odd sized image or an image that is larger than the viewable screen, it resizes the image to fit. Many people would much rather view images at their true size, so here’s how to avoid it. In IE, go to Tools > Internet Options and select the “Advanced” tab. Scroll down to the “Multimedia Options” and uncheck “Enable Automatic Image Resizing”.

Logon Background

If you are one of those people who choose to disable the Windows XP Welcome screen (or are simply running Windows 2000) and want to replace the old boring background that appears with the login dialog, this tweak will do the trick. This sets the background for the login screen only, and is separate from the desktop background.

First, open up regedit and navigate to this registry key: HKEY_USERS/.DEFAULT/Control Panel/Desktop. On the right panel there should be a string value named “Wallpaper” (if not, simply create it). Double click on it and enter the full path to a bitmap (bmp) file that is going to be used for the background. For example: C:/Documents and Settings/Bob/My Documents/picture.bmp.

If you would like to tile the wallpaper, double click on the string value “TileWallpaper” and set the value to 1 (a value of 0 turns off tiling). If you would like to stretch the wallpaper, double-click the string value “WallpaperStyle” and set the value to 2 (the “TileWallpaper” value must be a 0 for this to work)

Finally, if you just wish to change the background color instead of setting a background image, go to: HKEY_USERS/.DEFAULT/Control Panel/Colors. Double click on the “Background” string value and change the values.

The values are in R G B; the default should be something similar to 0 78 152, meaning the Red component is 0; Green is 78; and Blue is 152.

Low Disk Space Balloon Warning

Some of you may have gotten this before if you have a hard drive nearing its capacity. XP will notify you via a balloon warning, notifying you of the situation and inviting you to clean up your disk. It can be very annoying. There are two remedies for the problem. The first is to go out a buy another hard drive. The second is this quick registry edit: Open up regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer. Create a new DWORD value called “NoLowDiskSpaceChecks”, give it a value of 1, and reboot. You won’t be seeing that pesky balloon warning again.

Delay When Opening “My Computer”

It is a sure thing that you have sat in front of your monitor more than a few times and waited for “My Computer” to load. There is a simple fix to eliminate the wait time.

Open up “My Computer”, go to Tools > Folder Options and select the “View” tab. Uncheck “Automatically search for network folders and printers” and hit OK. Now try opening up “My Computer”. Notice a difference?

Few Tweaks

Increase Folder Cache

The default setting for WindowsXP is to cache the folder settings for 400 folders. If you notice that your folders keep losing their settings, you may want to increase this number if you have a good number of folders.

In regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/ShellNoRoam and double click on BagMRU. Select “Decimal” and then change the number value to whatever size you want. 2000 seems to be a good place to start, for it should be more than enough for most users. For users with several multiple storage drives; that number should be increased by another thousand or two.

Make Folders Private in XP

You can make any folders private to all other users on the system by right clicking on the folder and going to the “Sharing” tab. Check the “Make this folder private” box and hit OK. Note that this only works on NTFS file systems.

Set Folder Permissions in 2000

There is a neat little feature in 2000, however only applicable on NTFS drives. On and partition/drive/folder, right click and click “Properties” and go to the “Security” tab.

The different users will be listed according to user groups. Administrators on top, Creator, Everyone, SYSTEM, Users, and customized groups are inserted according to closest user group. If you only want a specific user access to a certain folder, turn every body’s permissions off except for the user, administrator and SYSTEM. Depending on how much freedom you want to give the user, you can make the folder read-only by unchecking “Full Control”, “Modify, “Read & Execute” and “Write”. If the user wants to open something, they would have to copy and paste the file to an area where they had permission to open files a.k.a. “Read & Execute”.

So, here’s a rundown on what each entry does: “Full Control” grants total unrestricted access; “Modify” allows users to change files (i.e., edit and save Word documents); “Read & Execute” allows the user to run *.exe files and open files; “List Folder Contents” allows the user to view anything in that folder; “Read” allows the user to see files, but not open or modify them; “Write” allows users to save new files, but not change any existing ones. Note that any change made to a folder will also change all the subfolder permissions. Anything left unchecked in the main folder can be checked in the subfolders, but anything left checked in the main folder cannot be unchecked in the subfolders. Folder hierarchies need to be kept in mind when changing these permissions.

Overall, it’s fairly simple to work with. You just need to keep track of where you are within the file structure.

Hiding a XP Computer from Network Neighborhood

If you want to share files from a XP computer, yet want to remove it from showing up in the Network Neighborhood, Run net config server /hidden:yes

Hide A drive

If you don’t want other users stumbling over a drive while browsing the computer through Explorer, this tweak may help out. Although this tweak will render the drive invisible in Windows Explorer, it will still be accessible through Windows’ search utility, as well as other third-party file managing applications. Microsoft Office applications will also be able to access the cloaked drive with no problem.

To cloak a drive, open up regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/
CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer
. Create/modify the DWORD value “NoDrives” to match a corresponding drive letter you wish to hide. A: 1; B: 2; C: 4; D: 8; E: 16; F: 32; G: 64; H: 128; I: 256; J: 512; etc. To hide multiple drives, just add the values together and enter the sum as the value for the DWORD value “NoDrives”. To hide all the drives, just enter the value 67108863.

DNS Caching tweaks

When you surf the web, Windows stores recently visited addresses in a DNS cache. The cache is accessed before a request is sent out over the net when a web page address is requested. If the address is found in the DNS cache, it saves time by eliminating the need to request and IP address from a DNS server over the net.

There is a stack of IP addresses in the DNS cache that constantly gets bumped down as IP requests are made. Sort of like a waiting list. This tweak will increase the size of the DNS cache, thus greatly increasing the speed at which web pages are accessed, especially if you regularly check certain web pages.

Open up regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Dnscache/Parametersand create/modify these DWORD values: “CacheHashTableBucketSize” set with the value of 1; “CacheHashTableSize” set with the value of 180; “MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit” set with the value of ff00; and “MaxSOACacheEntryTtlLimit” set with the value of 12d.

The second part of DNS caching involves the caching of unsuccessful results. Namely, a valid URL that is temporary offline or cannot be accessed for some reason. As long as that entry remains in the cache and even if the URL goes live again, because Windows refers to the DNS cache first, it will only see the unsuccessful connection and continue to refer to it until it is bumped from the cache. Sounds bad, but there is a way to avoid this with a registry fix that prevents unsuccessful DNS lookups from being cached.

Open regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Dnscache/Parameters. Create/modify the following DWORD values: “NegativeCacheTime” set with the value of 0; “NetFailureCacheTime” set with the value of 0; and “NegativeSOACacheTime” set with the value of 0. Close regedit and reboot.

Disable Internet Connection Sharing

If you don’t use Windows’ Internet Connection Sharing service, it can be turned off. This will have no effect on computers running on a LAN off of one Internet connection, as long as the feature has not been configured for use. It is most often the case that it is not used.

To turn it off, go to Start > Run and type services.msc. In XP, set the startup type to “Manual” or “Disabled” for “Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)”. For 2000, it is the “Internet Connection Sharing” service.

Turn Off Terminal Services

If you are experiencing slow shutdowns, one tweak you can try is turning off Ternimal Services. If you do not use remote desktop, fast user switching, remote assistance or the terminal server, then proceed with this tweak.

Go to Start > Run and type services.msc /s. Find “Terminal Services” on the list and double click on it (If it’s not there, it isn’t installed). Change startup type to “disabled” or “manual” and click OK.

Slow Boot Caused By Networking

If you are experiencing a long pause after getting to the desktop before you can really do anything, a network feature is probably the culprit.

In XP, go to Control Panel > Networking Connections. In 2000, go to Control Panel > Networking and Dial-up Connections. Right click on your Internet connection and click “Properties”. Uncheck “File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Network” and hit apply and OK. Windows 2000 machines will need to reboot before continuing. Go back into “Properties” and re-check the box, hit apply and OK and reboot if needed. Hopefully, you will notice a boost in speed after booting to your desktop.

Note:Its recommended to keep File and printer Sharing unchecked for better security, but uncheck this only if you dont share your printer with others on your network.

Disable VSYNC For Frame Rate & Benchmark Boost

The following graphics tweaks help to improve graphics performance.

If you are looking to boost your frame rate in 3D games or benchmark programs and not concerned about image quality loss, try disabling the VSYNC or “wait for vertical synchronization” setting. This setting is found in your video card’s direct 3D and OpenGL settings. When enabled, this setting basically forces the video card to conform and display frames according to the frame rate of the monitor. It has to wait until an entire image frame has been displayed before displaying the next frame. Many newer video cards may be able to render frames considerably faster than the forced cap VSYNIC puts on FPS production. Note, however, that although disabling this feature may not produce any visual quality difference in some games, in other games your card may render images horribly. Either way, if disabling VSYNC produces desirable results, there is no reason not to leave it that way.

On ATi cards:
In the “Advanced” display settings, go to the “3D” tab and check “use custom settings” for both direct3D and OpenGL. Click the “Custom” button to access the controls for both modes. Turn the “wait for vertical sync” slider all the way to the left.

On nVidia cards:
In the “Advanced” display settings, go to the tab that identifies your video card model. The VSYNC settings are located in “more direct3D settings” and “OpenGL settings”. Disable the appropriate one.

Launch Applications a Bit FAster

Prefetching Specific Applications

Window Media Player has an extra switch included into its shortcut to help load it faster using XP’s prefetch feature. You can try this out on some of your other applications by right clicking on the program’s shortcut and clicking “properties. Add /prefetch:1 to the end of the contents of the “Target” box at the end after double inverted commas Example in Mozilla fire fox target box you will find

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
So after adding it will be
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /prefetch:1

This Feature Works Even On system Restore,Mozilla Fire Fox also seams to launch bit faster after i added extra command to its shortcut.

Disable Virtual Memory

Keep Core Windows Operating Data in Main Memory

This tweak forces core kernel and essential driver files to stay in the RAM, rather than being shoved into virtual memory on the hard drive. In the conversion over to virtual memory, performance can drop significantly. This transfer over to virtual memory is designed to be put into effect when the system is getting low on physical RAM, however, this occurs periodically even when the system is not low on memory. In those cases, the transfer over to virtual RAM is often not necessary. Only proceed with applying this tweak if you have at least 1GB+ of RAM in your system.

Open regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/Session Manager/Memory Management. Double click on DWORD value “DisablePagingExecutive” and set the value to 1.

Note:This tweak is not recommended if you play HighEnd games or Softwares which needs verry high amount of RAM.

Disable Remote Registry

This service allows your registry to be edited from a remote computer. This Service is not needed unless you have servers or you controle ur pc from remote location, not to mention a possible security risk for people concerned about their system security.

To turn it off, go to Start > Run and type services.msc. Set the startup type to “Manual” or “Disabled” for XP’s “Remote Registry” or 2000’s “Remote Registry Service”.

XPAntivirus Anti-Spyware Removal

XPAntiVirus is the suspect anti-spyware that includes a set of features which do not work, and generates false positives to trick users, forcing them to buy commercial version of this software. XPAntiVirus may be dangerous for your computer, causing system errors and slowdowns. This misleading program can be installed manually or through browser security holes (using trojan horses or worms, installed on your computer). It also hijacked the homepage to obscure websites, sometimes with adult content. Remember that XPAntiVirus is unable to remove spyware and viruses!

"Missing or corrupt Ntfs.sys" error message when you restart Windows XP after you convert your hard disk to the NTFS file system

Article ID:822800
Last Review:June 16, 2004
Revision:2.1

SYMPTOMS

You can use the following command to convert your hard disk from the FAT 32 file system to the NTFS file system:
convert drive: /fs:ntfs
When you use the command, after the computer completes the conversion and you restart Windows XP, you may receive an error message similar to the following error message:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Ntfs.sys file is missing or becomes corrupted when you convert your hard disk to NTFS.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, replace the missing or corrupted Ntfs.sys file:
1.Use the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD to restart your computer.
2.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to select the To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R option.
3.Type the number of the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console, and then press ENTER.
4. Type the administrator password when you are prompted, and then press ENTER. If no administrator password exists, just press ENTER.
5.At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each command):
cd \windows\system32\drivers

ren ntfs.sys ntfs.old
Note This step renames the corrupted Ntfs.sys file to Ntfs.old. If the Ntfs.sys file is not found, the file is missing.
6.At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
copy cd:\i386\ntfs.sys drive:\windows\system32\drivers
Where cd is the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD, and drive is the drive where you installed Windows XP.
7.Remove the Windows XP CD from your CD-ROM drive, type quit at a command prompt, and then press ENTER to quit the Recovery Console.
8.Restart the computer.

Reduce Start Menu slide open Delay

The Start menu has a built-in delay of just under half a second. Set the delay to 0 for an instantaneous response.

But It Would Be better If You Set it to around 80

Start regedit (type regedit in run found on start menu)and navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\

Set the value of MenuShowDelay to 80 and exit regedit.

Paging Tweak

If you have two or more hard disks, move your pagefile.

There is no point in moving your pagefile if you have a single disk, even if the disk has multiple partitions, so this tweak requires at least two hard disks. It relies on the assumption that your second or subsequent hard disk is used much less than your system disk (the disk that your operating system and applications are installed on) so there is less disk activity on it, which means the pagefile can be accessed much more quickly on that drive. In addition, Input/Output (I/O) to and from the second disk is performed in parallel to any I/O on the first disk, which means Windows is not trying to batter the heads across the hard disk as it tries to load files at the same time it is accessing the pagefile.

If you have a single disk with partitions then there is no benefit to be gained from this tweak because the pagefile will still be on the same disk, and the disk heads will still have to move across the same hard disk to get to the pagefile. By moving the pagefile to a different disk you can obtain significant performance gains if your machine constantly page faults.

This pagefile tweak will perform best if the second or subsequent drive is empty to start with. Failing that, a disk defragment should be performed before applying this tweak to help ensure a contiguous (unbroken) span of space is available for the pagefile.

To Perform This Tweak:
  • Open the Control Panel and select the System applet
    • Alternatively, right-click "My Computer" on the desktop and select Properties
  • On the Advanced tab, select Settings under the Performance group:
On the Performance Options dialog box, click Change, which is under the Virtual Memory group:

Click on the hard disk that currently contains the pagefile (1.) then click No paging file (2.), then click Set:

Click on the hard disk that you want to contain the pagefile (1.), then click Custom size (2.) and enter the same value as shown in the Recommended field (3.). Finally, click Set then OK:

You do not have to use a fixed-size pagefile if you do not want to, however if you elect to allow the system to choose the pagefile, the pagefile will need to grow at a later date, and your system will slow down during the pagefile growth stage. It is suggested that you use a fixed size pagefile of the recommended size.

You must reboot to make this change take effect.

Disable Monitoring tools

All versions of Windows NT (NT 4.0, win2k, XP , Vista & Vienna) contain numerous counters that gather performance information from various parts of the system. The data is continually written to the registry and retrieved by performance monitoring tools, such as System Monitor. The issue with this process is that if you are not using any monitoring tools then the data is being written to the registry for no good reason, however this is balanced by the operating system maintaining a registry cache in memory.

If you do not use a performance monitoring tool or any third-party desktop gadgets that report performance data then you can disable all performance data gathering.

WARNING
If you perform this tweak then the data from all performance objects and counters will not appear in any performance tool. You will not be able to use System Monitor or any other tool that uses Performance Library (perflib) data. Performance will merely be reported as 0 or 100, depending on the counter.

To disable all performance counters, run regedit and navigate to this registry key:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib

Add a new DWORD Value named DisablePerformanceCounters:

Set the value of DisablePerformanceCounters to 1 and either reboot or restart the registry service:

Disable Indexing service

From a Microsoft Knowledgebase article titled "Windows XP may run slowly and you may see multiple symptoms in Windows Task Manager":

This issue can occur if the Indexing service is running on the computer. The Indexing service uses the Cidaemon.exe process to index files. The Cidaemon.exe process builds and updates the Index catalog. Additionally, the Cidaemon.exe process typically uses lots of pagefile space and lots of CPU time.

the indexing service works in the background, scouring almost every file that it finds. On a new system, the indexing service can take days to settle down. This is because the service puts a low priority on its work. Despite this low priority, the indexing service can cause serious performance degradation, especially in lower-end machines because the computer's hard disk runs continuously.

To disable the indexing service:
  • Click Start, Run, type services.msc then press enter or click OK
  • Scroll to the "Indexing Service" in the right-hand pane and double-click it
  • Change the Startup type to Manual or Disable and Apply
  • Click the Stop button and wait for the service to stop then click OK

Disable Last Access Timestamp

Whenever XP reads a file, it stamps the file with the date and time that you accessed it. This is not required for normal use unless you rely on the date of last access for backup purposes. Putting a timestamp on a file that has just been read means that a write access has to be made to disk, so every time a read is executed, a corresponding write is also executed.

To disable the last access timestamp behaviour, start a command prompt, enter the following command then reboot;

FSUTIL behavior set disablelastaccess 1

To turn timestamps back on, repeat the command but replace 1 with 0;

FSUTIL behavior set disablelastaccess 0

No RapidShare Ticket

Well This Is Very Simple Trick

You Know That After A Download From RapidShare , to Download Another File you Have to wait for a while.

This is mainly possible as they track your ip address and from cookie.

so trick is simple

1.> First Clear Your Cookies ,In mozilla its down from tools, clear private data and tick on cookies and click on clear private data, similarly in internet explorer ,go to tools >internet options and click on delete cookies

2.>Now you just switch off your modem and turn it back on ,this will change your external ip address, Am assuming that you have Broad Band connection.

3.>In case you have dailup connection,go to command prompt(in run found on start menu type cmd)

In command prompt type

ipconfig / release

ipconfig / renew

i have not tested this dialup trick,so don't know if this works

4.>Anyway,after your modem starts and online try downloading another file

5.>follow same procedure to download many files

Note:Due To recent RapidShare hack, there is possibility that they might have added many new security features
So there is a probability that this trick might not Work.

Find Out Who is Invisible on Yahoo!

Sometimes some of your friends who appear offline in yahoo messenger may not be actually offline, they may in the 'Invisible' mode. This maybe if they are trying to ignore you or are too busy to talk to anyone.

There is this small trick that you can use to find out what the truth is.

Firstly open your yahoo messenger main window and double click on the name of the person whom you want to check. The chat window will open obviously.

Click IMVironment button, select See all IMVironments, select Yahoo! Tools or Interactive Fun, and click on Doodle.
After loading the Doodle imvironment there can be two possibilities

1.If the user is offline Doodle are will show this "waiting for your friend to load Doodle" continuously .See in the picture below:

2. If the user is online (but in invisible mode), after few seconds (it can take up to one minute, depending on your connection speed), you should get a blank page like in the picture below. So you know that the user is online.

Alternate Method:

Chose a person you want to check .Double click to open the chat window. Now simply invite the person for a voice conference. This is done by clicking on the "conference' button on the top of the chat window.
If the talk button appears and turns green then that person is online. But if you receive the message 'Voice chat could not be started ' then the person is offline.

Note:Some people use softwares like buddy spy to check who is invisible. Its not RECOMMENDED to use such third party softwares as they can expose your Pc to hackers by sending your personal information and can even steal information from your Pc.So avoid such softwares and instead use the simple tricks given above.

Free File Protector

System-protect is Free Software Used to Secure Your File from Getting Deleted accidently ,by VIRUS or Similar Reasons.

I Used it and found it bit usefull when it came to VIRUS protection Because it prevents unknown users and softwares from deleting the files and even protects Windows files so Chances of VIRUS corrupting Windows is ruled out.

I Dont have much to Say About it.

Just check it out at http://www.system-protect.com/

Free Spyware,Antivirus And Webguard

Spyware Terminator :

It has Inbuilt Anti Spyware, Antivirus(WinClamAV),WebGuard Embedded Into crawler ToolBar. I used It for a While ,its good in spyware detection and Webguard Feature Works fine by Warning Us While We Visit any Website Which has Harmfull contents like Virus, spywares and even warns if that website is known for faudanent activity. Its Webguard feature came in handy While i join Ptc & Ptr sites, as i got warnings about the site's that were known for scamming.

WinClamAV has average Virus Detection But As its free we cant demand much from it ,but its detection capablity may increase in later versions.

Spyware Terminator is Bit annoying Sometimes as it ask's us To Allow or Permit when we are trying to run some application(like Windows Vista) ,but this can be disabled in real-time protection tab by un ticking Threats-shield found under shield settings.

And Crawler Toolbar has many in built services and Applications. its compatible with Internet explorer & Mozilla (I have not tested on Google Chrome).

And WinclamAv Consumes bit of System Resource While Scanning.

As its totally Free, Overall I would Rate Spyware terminator(With ClamAv and Webguard) 3.5/5

Automated Disk Cleanup

Automated Disk Cleanup

This Post will show you how to create Shortcut to disk cleanup which will also empty your prefetch folder. Its assumed that you have Windows XP installed .

Step 1.

Create a new text file and place the following contents inside:

%windir%\system32\cleanmgr.exe /dc /sageset: 1
cd %windir%\prefetch
del *.* /q

Step 2.

Save the file, changing the extension from .txt to .bat
If you dont know how to do this ,assume you have saved your

text file in Desktop, just open command prompt (type cmd in run found on Start menu),in command prompt type cd desktop and hit enter, now assuming you have saved the text file with name as clean,so just type ren clean.txt clean.bat and hit enter

Step 3.
Now you will find a file named clean on your Desktop .Execute the file. This will run the Disk Cleanup program in a special mode which asks what items you want to be cleaned. Check the items you wish to have cleaned up, then click OK.

Step 4.

If you Want It to Be fully Unattended, Then Right-click on the clean.bat file and click edit. Change the first line to :

%windir%\system32\cleanmgr.exe /dc /sagerun: 1

Note: This cleanup script will also clear Windows prefetch directory. Often this directory can become cluttered with old appication and a cleaning would free up disk space but it will result in a one time performance decrease and windows has to rebuild the cache with active software afterwards.

Shortcut To Shutdown & Reboot

Shortcut To Shutdown & Reboot

To create Shortcut to Shutdown And Reboot

1> Right click on your desktop, Scrol Down to New, now click on Shortcut(or press s)

2>A new window will popup,in the location box type

%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0

where 0=zero to initiate shutdown sequence in 0 seconds

And You name the shortcut as Shutdown just for convenience

3>Similarly For Reboot instead of %windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0
Type

%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -r -t 0

and save shortcut as Reboot

And You Can even create abort Shutdown command by typing

%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -a

For Logoff

%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -l -t 0
